Exploring function, purpose and needs
Article Abstract:
A series of lectures entitled 'Functionalism: What was it? What is it? What could it be? was held in early 1993. The speakers included academics, practising architects, historians and an engineer. The series drew a clear distinction between the functional and Functionalism with further distinctions between positivism and qualativism being made by organiser, Peter Blundell Jones. The series ended with a debate on the present role of Functionalism that concluded the concept was still valid and valuable.
