The exports in South Korea have contributed to it's economic recovery. The unemployment is still high. The huge debt burden of the households including mortgages and credit sales of 440 trillion won ($372 billion) is discouraging private consumption, which is crucial for attaining the forecasted rate of 5.2 % for the year 2004.

Samsung's run continues
Article Abstract:
Review 200 survey has identified Samsung Electronics, and POSCO in the top two positions among the South Korean companies. Explosive growth in mobile phone sales and healthy flash memory chips helped the Samsung business earn a net profit of 1.84 trillion in 2003, up 6.2% from 2002.
