External financial developments in the transition economies
Article Abstract:
The current account balances of several European transition economies decreased in 1996. There were 10 nations with current account deficits more than 5% of their gross domestic product. Uncertainty about the growth of goods and services as well as surges in capital inflows are major issues for the region. Larger current account deficits are expected in 1997.
