The value of the UK market for extruded snacks is anticipated to rise to 736 million pounds sterling in 2002, from 620 million pounds sterling in 1997. Some 38% of extruded snack products were made to appeal to children. Advertising extruded snacks cost 26 million pounds sterling, a fall of 20% in 1996. Expenditure on advertising extruded snacks accounted for 2.2% of sales. Some 63% of extruded snacks were sold from supermarkets. The total savoury snacks market was worth 1,577 million pounds sterling in 1997, with sales of crisps worth 769 million pounds sterling.
