Die Sparneigung w chst wieder, die Zinsen bleiben aber im Keller
Article Abstract:
Wifo, the Austrian Institute for Economic Forecasting, forecasts Austria's savings ratio in 1998 at 9.1% and in 1999 at 9.4%, up from 7.9% in 1997 and 8.6% in 1996. The decline of the ratio in 1996-97 is explained with the government's austerity measures. The trend is away from savings accounts towards higher-yield savings products such as investment funds, the volume of which has grown by 250% to Sch 661bn in the past five years. Provision for the old age is a key motive in putting money aside.
