RIL ALLOWED TO ENTER GLOBAL MOBILE TELECOM
Article Abstract:
Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has secured the approval of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to foray into the global mobile communication systems. RIL had sought the approval of FIPB for investments worth Rs660 crore by multilateral agencies, foreign institutional investors and equipment suppliers. Ambanis, the promoters of RIL, will hold a 51 percent stake in the venture while 49 percent will be held by multilateral agencies, foreign institutional investors and equipment suppliers. (ag)

MOTOROLA TO SET UP WIRELESS SOLUTIONS UNIT IN HYDERABAD
Article Abstract:
Motorola India Electronics Ltd (MIEL) has established the Hyderabad Development Centre (HDC). HDC will focus on developing wireless communication solutions. Set up at a cost of Rs15 crore, HDC is a 100 percent export-oriented unit (EOU). It will design the next generation telecommunication systems and VLSI and CAD, besides taking up research and development (R&D). MIEL's software exports fetched Rs40 crore in 1997. (uh)
