SOFTWARE EXPORTS SEE RECORD 65 PC GROWTH
Article Abstract:
The electronics and computer software export promotion council says that India's software exports increased by 65 percent to Rs6,800 crore in 1997-98. Canada and the US accounted for 57 percent of India's exports at Rs3,380 crore while exports to Europe accounted for 26 percent at Rs1,782 crore. Tata Consultancy Services exported software worth Rs938 crore, Infosys Technologies Rs291 crore, Pentafour Software Rs245 crore, Satyam Computers Rs190 crore, Tata Infotech Rs171 crore and Wipro Rs155 crore. Software Technology Parks accounted for 49.8 percent of the exports, 38.5 percent from the domestic traffic area units and 11.7 percent from export processing zones. (khr)

KARNATAKA TO SET UP STPs IN DISTRICTS
Article Abstract:
The government of Karnataka will set up Software Technology Parks (STPs) in Mangalore, Hubli and Mysore. The Software Technology Parks of Karnataka (STPK) will provide earth station, buildings and other infrastructure to entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs will also be offered financial assistance from STPK. The state government is also planning to set up a School for Entrepreneurship in the STP at Mysore. (gs)
