FBCB2 takes major step forward
Article Abstract:
TRW has announced important advances in maturation of the formation battle command, brigade and below (FBCB2) digitization system. Having been set up to enable further development following the Division Advanced Warfighting Experiment and the first follow-up Limited User Test in 1998, FBCB2 is currently in low rate initial production for the US Army. The company claimed the FBCB2 has demonstrated substantial progress with Version 3.2 software at what it called a 'Force Development Test and Evaluation Event.'

GCT firepower revival for the French Army of the 21st century
Article Abstract:
The French Army's 155mm AUF1 Grande Cadence de Tir self-propelled howitzer (SPH) will undergo a substantial rework to fit it for service through 2021. In 1999, a two-part retrofit program was officially started that involved the partial upgrading of 104 SPHs to AUF1 TA standard and the full upgrading of a further 70 SPHs to AUF2 standard. The most important component of the AUF2 rework will be its new 52-caliber/23-liter ordnance, which complies with NATO's Joint Ballistics Memorandum of Understanding.

Forward air controllers or flag wavers? Seeking common ground
Article Abstract:
Airborne or forward air controllers (FACs) are essential to boost the accuracy of air strikes. The concept of FAC operations in the former Warsaw Pact nations relied mainly on remote radar surveillance, with the primary aim of ensuring that friendly air unos remained within their assigned fire zones. On the other hand, NATO espoused the 'eyes-on' approach. The three FAC training establishments in Europe are located in Holland, France and the UK.
