Alta + PO Belaz
Article Abstract:
Alta (Brno, Czech Republic), trade firm, and PO Belaz (Belarus), automotive company, arranged a contract on 09 Nov 2000. The contract, which regards the second and third stages of the modernization of the automotive company Belaz, is worth USD 69.5 mil. All the modernization project is worth USD 119 mil. About 60% of the contract's volume will be ensured by Czech firms. The financing of the contract is ensured through a credit granted by Ceska exportni banka (Czech Republic). Besides, Interbanka (Czech Republic) will participate in the financing. Credits for the project will be insured by EGAP (Czech Republic). Currently, supplies for the first stage of the project are being realized. A contract on the first stage was arranged in Mar 1999. Jobs worth more than USD 40 mil from the volume of the first stage of the project have been realized. The first stage, which includes mainly supplies from the largest Czech machine tool manufacturers, should be completed by June 2001.

The successful firm Daewoo Avia

Daewoo Avia (DA) (Prague, Czech Republic), automotive company, will launch a new type of the utility vehicle Avia AD 100 in October 1999. The firm plans to sell 5,500 Avia vehicles, 1,000 Lublin vehicles and 6,050 Daewoo cars in 1999. The company exported a total of 1,971 Avia vehicles in 1998. DA exported 665 Avia vehicles to Hungary, 506 pieces to Slovakia, 268 pieces to Uzbekistan, 261 pieces to Poland, 48 pieces to Bulgaria, 43 pieces to the Baltic countries, 34 pieces to Germany and 16 pieces to the Ukraine in 1998. DA sold 2,079 Avia vehicles on the domestic market in 1998, 20% less compared to 1997. The company sold a total of 8,471 vehicles including 4,651 utility vehicles in 1998. The firm sold 4,050 Avia vehicles, 601 Lublin vehicles and 3,820 Daewoo cars in 1998. DA's total proceeds amounted to 4.7 bil Kc in 1998. The firm launched Daewoo Matis car in the middle of July 1998. About 1,529 pieces of the cars had been sold on the Czech market by the end of 1998.

The perseverance of the car industry

Skoda Auto (SA) (Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic), car company, has developed a new car model called Fabia. The firm has commissioned new lines for the production including a new welding shop worth 219 mil DEM, a paint shop worth 49 mil DEM, an assembly line worth 106 mil DEM and a new pressing shop worth 248 mil DEM. The firm should weld 1,200 car bodies per day. About 240 robots are utilised for Fabia car production. The company should produce 145,000 Fabia cars per year. The majority of components for Fabia car production is manufactured in the Czech territory. SA plans to produce about 400,000 cars per year prospectively. The firm will export 80% of its production in 1999 compared to 29% in 1991.
