Adapted Comanche makes first flight
Article Abstract:
The Comanche, with a new empennage design, was flight tested in Dec 2000. The RAH-66 flew its full up configuration with lowered exhaust doors, alternate main rotor pylon, main rotor hub fairing and the fire control radar 'aero-dummy.' The empennage design consists of vertical and horizontal stabilizers and new vertical structure. The tail structure, mounted above the shrouded tail rotor, permits component adjustments to optimize a final tail design for production.
