FRANCE: DIFFERENCE IN BOYS AND GIRLS FOOD HABITS
Article Abstract:
CMA processed 5.7mn statistical data and 400 International documentary sources on the eating habits of children aged 5 to 17 in Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Spain, the United States, France, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Sweden, for the Sodexho data centre on the quality of daily life. The study shows that eating is first of all a taste pleasure for 94.1% of the French, compared with 73.2%. For 50.3% of the French eating is a physiological necessity, compared with 69.2% in Brazil, and for 38% it is a social rite, compared with 45.3% in the United States. Of the children surveyed, 66.3% of girls and boys eat differently. In France, 68% of the girls want to limit their calorie intake, compared with only 21% in Canada. As they get over, the boys are increasingly overweight, with a 20% increase in fat compared with their ideal weight. This phenomenon has risen 60% in the United States, 43% in the United Kingdom, and 28% in France over the past ten years. Boys' meals are made up of an average of 3.3 items, compared with 2.1 items for girls. As the get older, the number of these items increases for boys and decreases for girls. The girls eat twice as much fruit, vegetables, dairy products as the boys who eat three times more meat and starches, three times more sandwiches, four times more pizzas, and five times more ready meals. Of the children surveyed, 86.4% in the eleven countries studied, said that they eat what they want; in the United States this was 92%.
