FRANCE: DISTRIBUTION AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES
Article Abstract:
According to the Cap Gemini consultancy firm, electronic sales do not pose a threat to hypermarkets at present even if they have a strong impact on certain niche products such as computers, books, CDs and services. The essential point of electronic trade is a strong organisation of the logistics flow, which is expensive. Before setting up data warehouses, retailers must first adapt the systems which supply them with data processing systems so that they are reliable. In a context of strong consolidation, the need homogenisation of data processing systems for central functions is obvious, while the homogenisation of operating systems is more complicated. According to Cap Gemini, these technologies can only develop during the next ten years but, the experts say that the revolution is the Internet and electronic sales.
