FRANCE: INTERMARCHE'S GOALS

Intermarche intends to have a total of 20,000 stores scattered over four continents in 2008, for a total turnover of EUR 100bn. Intermarche wants to have 6,000 stores in France in 2008 and 3,000 in countries where it is currently present. By 2008 Intermarche would also like to be present in Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, and in Asia. Intermarche plans to open 59 Ecomarche stores in Europe in 2000 and to launch the CDM retail chain in Portugal and Poland. Intermarche also plans to open 34 Intermarche stores in these countries and to launch its first Bricomarche. The company is going to create Centromarche, a new city-centre retail chain, in Europe in 2000. The first store in this retail chain will be opened at Barcelona in Spain. This store will carry 3,4000 products, including 55 chilled products. Intermarche expects to post an 8% rise in turnover in France in 2000, and a 40% rise in European countries.

Telemarket, a French company specialising in home delivery, expects to make a turnover of FFr 1bn in Paris and the Paris region within two years. It has a 12,000-square metre warehouse which already enables it to make around 10,000 deliveries per day. It is revising its Internet site and is cutting prices by 12% to 15%. Christian Marchandise, the director of Telemarket, says that the company is going to extend its supermarket catalogue to offer 6,000 products, plus others such as clothing, books, CDs, and wine. Telemarket intends to develop in Europe. The company is soon expected to be present in the principal European capitals.

FRANCE: ITM'S NEW LOGISTICS BASE
Article Abstract:
Intermarche (ITM Entreprise) has signed an agreement with the Nantes Saint-Nazaire port to install an international logistics base in the industrial-port area of the port of Nantes and Saint-Nazaire in the Loire-Atlantique departement. The installation of this base will represent an investment of FFr 90mn. Initially this base will be allocated to imports and exports, concerning the Intermarche and Bricomarche retail chains. This activity concerns bulk dry products and inexpensive household items.
