FRANCE: THE CREAM MARKET OVER 12 MONTHS

According to ACNielsen, the cream market held steady at 126,057 tonnes for the twelve months ending 11 April 1999, calculated monthly, for FFr 2.46bn, down 0.3%. Fresh cream is the leader with a 65.3% volume market share, and a 59.9% value market share. UHT cream rose 0.3% in value to its practicality and price, its screw cap pour spouts, and easy-open features, as well as quality and price. This segment is driven by semi-thick cream, which is less greasy than whole cream, and which rose 55% in volume, and by light UHT (ultra high temperature) cream which rose 8.1% in value.

France: Bridel and the fresh cream market
Article Abstract:
According to David Saliot, the head of Bridel cream and butter innovation products, the French fresh cream market is dropping in volume but it is rising in value, boosted by the vitality of light cream, which has 15% or 8% fat content. Mr Saliot says that lightness and practicality are the two drivers of the market growth for fresh cream. This explains the success of extra-light cream, a product which had only niche status two years ago.

Carrefour has added a fresh pasteurised milk from the mountains under its own brand Filiere Quality. This new product comes in a 75 centilitre glass bottle, made by Saint-Gobain Emballages. It is priced at FFr 6.56 per bottle.
