FRANCE: FROZEN FOODS SECTION IS UNAPPEALING
Article Abstract:
According to Herve Cathelin, managing director of Glaces-Findus, the frozen food departments are unappealing. This lack of attractiveness, combined with the effect of the mad cow disease crisis and competition from the chilled foods section has resulted in the current poor performance of the frozen foods department. Mr Cathelin says that in order to make the department more attractive, it must be enlivened with an improvement in appeal merchandising. This must be done in partnership with retailers. An attractive department promotes impulse purchases. In order to develop the potential of the ice cream market, companies must innovate and consumption outside of the home must be increased.

FRANCE: FROZEN FOOD PRODUCTS AND LARGE RETAILERS
Article Abstract:
According to Stratega, large retailers and home sales may play an important role in the sales of frozen food products in France in the future. This development would be to the detriment of specialised retailers. Large retailers will have to develop services in stores in order to take advantage of this trend, by offering insulated bags, cold blocks and information for frozen products. Large retailers are also expected to develop services and initiatives in the area of home delivery of frozen food products.
