Indonesia has a reputation for gross inequality of income distribution, though statistics indicate the problem is not as bad as perceived. Still a poor education system contributes to the inequity and keeps Indonesia lagging behind some of its Asian neighbors.

A Cornell University study on economic behaviour seems to support the theory that decisions are made almost solely on the basis of self interest, but by acting only in self interest the person will ultimately defeat his own purpose.
