Colgate-Palmolive ranks as the top manufacturer in the multi-purpose cleaners segment of the Italian surface cleaners market, accounting for 25.5% of value sales in 1997. Meanwhile, Unilever emerged as the manufacturer with the most market share, listing an increase of 1.7 percentage points from 1995 to 1997. Following Colgate-Palmolive and Unilever in terms of manufacturers' share in the segment is Procter & Gamble, with 22.4% of value sales in 1997. The general purpose cleaners segment is characterized by a very low level of private label sales, due to an extremely competitive environment.
