Lloyd's of London has reached a settlement with creditors who had sued for negligence. The case involved a Lloyd's underwriter who accepted 32 contracts with syndicates that eventually had huge asbestos and pollution liability problems. The settlement cost Lloyd's $208 million.

Real estate losses at Royal Trust and Bramalea have weakened Canada's largest conglomerate. The controlling corporations, Edper Enterprises and Pagurian halved their dividends on Feb. 16, 1993. Analysts recommend selling Royal Trust, Labatt and MacMillan Bloedel securities.

Feeling bad: latex sensitivity

The proteins that exist in latex and natural rubber causes allergic reactions in about 1% of the population, and can cause death to those highly sensitive. The FDA has sponsored an international conference to deal with the latex sensitivity issue.
