Financial capitalism will replace crony capitalism

Article Abstract:

It is hoped that the solutions to the East Asian banking crisis will lead to the replacement of crony capitalism by financial capitalism. The collapse of the Asian economies in 1997 to 1998 is expected to follow the same path of recovery that the US economy took in the economic collapse of 1893, the period that is credited for bringing in the era of financial capitalism in US economic history. The initial step to recovery, the introduction of a credit culture, is expected to be facilitated by the entry of foreign banks.

Thailand's educational issues generate concern over Thai's, especially public officials', increasing use of fraud and cheating to complete their degrees. Issues on standards, accreditation and fabrication have intensified as Thailand recognized the importance of educated labor in economic development. Thais, who regard education as a status symbol, are also impressionable and are not keen to investigate educational qualifications.

Flush with cash, Hong Kong should focus on education

Article Abstract:

Many are opposed to Hong Kong's new budget because education spending did not increase. Fiscal reserves are currently around 33% of the gross domestic product. Reducing the reserves by allotting scholarship funds would prepare workers for a knowledge-based economy, increase government efficiency, and help to close the rich-poor gap.
