Finding robust solutions for product design problems
Article Abstract:
A mathematical approach towards the derivation of robust solutions to product design problems was developed. Specifically, the concept of robustness was formalized as the maximum tolerance for design deviations without any negative impact on a product's characteristic requirements. This tolerance was formulated as either one-norm, infinity-norm or two-norm robustness. The concept, which entails 'finding a point in a feasible area defined by inequalities,' is applicable to linear programming solutions of both linear and nonlinear design problems.

Simulating health systems: modelling problems and software solutions
Article Abstract:
Discrete event simulation methods are employed to characterize patient interactions with health services. Unlike stochastic or deterministic models, such techniques are suited to capture modelling complexities such as multiple queues, multiple activities of entities and activity interruptions which are inherent in health systems. To this end, simulation routines were developed in Pascal and applied to a renal disease treatment system.

Risk analysis techniques and their application to software development
Article Abstract:
A review of literature published between 1976 and 1996 shows the increasing application of risk analysis techniques to assess the quality and reliability of software during its development. The detection and modeling of software faults is important in light of the growing use of software probabilistic risk analysis programs safety critical situations in the nuclear power and chemical industries.
