First Pacific may not fill PLDT's needs, analysts say: Hong Kong firm may lack expertise required to radically overhaul Philippine phone concern
Article Abstract:
Investment analysts believe that the investor flurry over the stocks of phone company Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) and investment firm Metro Pacific over their planned merger could only work on short term investments. Analysts believe that Metro Pacific has little means to improve the profitability of the phone company, given its track record of leaving the management to the hands of executives in the brought in firms. But some analysts believe that a merger between the two firms could result in short terms gains for both firms and the Pilipino Telephone, a cellular phone firm of PLDT.
