Fissiparous folk
Article Abstract:
There are a number of ethnic and other divisions within Nigeria, and they include religious divisions, with Muslims more common in northern Nigeria, and Christians more common in the south. The north has provided soldiers, and the south has focused on education and business. There are also 250 or more ethnic groups. Politicians may seek to grant jobs to appliacnts from their ethnic groups, and this may mean that mediocre applicants are appointed. Communal violence is a problem, which it is hoped that Nigeria can overcome.

Striving amid chaos
Article Abstract:
Nigerian businesses face a number of problems, such as intermittent power supply, poor telecommunications services and traffic congestion. Companies often have to ensure their own water and power supplies. Fraud, corruption and unpaid bills mean that willingness to grant credit and pay taxes is affected. Lack of trust means that cash is widely used. The government needs to introduce a privatization program that is is transparent, and foster competition and improve the performance of utilities.
