Fixed-income pros: beware of shrinkage
Article Abstract:
Convertible-bonds issued by Hong Kong are nearing a period of contraction due to their approaching maturity and early redemption. However, investors are given a caveat that redeeming convertible-bond is accompanied by danger, especially if the bonds are bought at a premium. The size of outstanding issues may fall by up to 29% if the forecast $2 billion worth of convertible-bonds are redeemed in the next two years. The big volume of possible redemptions also pose a big problem.
