Flexible as plastic: big Indonesian project avoids mothballs
Article Abstract:
Work on the US$1.6 billion Chandra Asri petrochemical project in West Java is going ahead since its owners declared it to be foreign-owned. Indonesian tycoon Pangestu Prajogo and his two partners bought Siemene International and Stallion Co in Hong Kong and made them Chandra Asri's holding companies. The Japanese shares were funnelled through Japan Indonesia Patrochemical Investment Corp. This maneuvering complied with the 1992 Indonesian government ruling of allowing 100% ownership of certain projects, and exempting 100% foreign-owned projects from borrowing restrictions.
