Flight of fancy: doubts increase over Sino-Korean aircraft plan
Article Abstract:
The joint Sino-Korean effort to develop a mid-sized passenger jet with about 100 seats keeps encountering doubts and problems locally and overseas. Disagreements between the partners have delayed completion of a prototype until at least 2000, and a Western partner has yet to be chosen. Many analysts speculate that none are truly interested in helping to create what would become a competitor in an already overfull international market. Asia will, however, become the world's top air-travel region by 2010.

The human factor
Article Abstract:
The effects of cockpit automation on the performance of aircraft crews in the US was tested in a series of experiments in 1991. Results of the experiment show that automated aircraft cockpits do not improve crew performance. Evidence also indicates that computers in aircraft cockpits do not lessen the work load of pilots. The experiments proved that computers cannot take over the work of aircraft pilots and that the human factor is of primary importance in the operation of aircrafts.

Strong undercarriage: Asia holds up major aircraft makers
Article Abstract:
The world market for jet-aircraft is going through a slump and Asian airlines are the only customers who have confirmed bookings in 1992. Most airlines are suffering from reduced revenues due to soaring prices and stiff competition and this has caused four prominent US airlines to cancel or postpone their bookings. The 70 bookings which have been made this year have been from Asia and Boeing and Airbus are the main beneficiaries.
