Floods, arsenic and a feud at the top
Article Abstract:
Bangladesh is seeking to recover from floods, while the political opposition seems to be seeking to force the government to hold an election. There is also a problem that many villages have poisoned water supplies due to contamination with arsenic. Businessmen oppose the opposition's call for a strike and argue that politicians are showing a lack of maturity. The policies of the opposition and the government appear to differ little, and a change of government may not lead to significant change, educated Bangladeshis argue.

The limits to growth?
Article Abstract:
Greenpeace is seeking new markets abroad for its main product, environmental protection. It is particularly hoping for growth in rapidly industrializing countries in Latin America and South-East Asia, where pollution problems are emerging. It opened an office in China in 1996, and may soon open another in South-East Asia, possibly in Thailand. Expanding in industrializing countries creates a number of dilemmas for Greenpeace, including the danger of becoming less flexible.
