The Bundesbank has resisted all efforts to loosen its monetary policy and reduce German interest rates, despite a downturn in the German economy. Nevertheless, the Bundesbank's tight money policies have succeeded in controlling inflation.

Don't blame the Bundesbank

The Bundesbank has performed well despite public unhappiness over Germany's 3% drop in first quarter 1993 gross domestic product. Its recent cut in interest rates shows it is responsibly aware of all its anti-recession policy options.
