Food preparation appliances
Article Abstract:
Sales of food appliances in the UK rose from 46.4 million pounds sterling in 1993 to 55 million pounds sterling by 1997. The number of units sold during the same period increased from 1,288,000 to 1,607,000. Market share of total consumer expenditure was 0.8% in 1997. The popularity of televised cookery shows is seen as the main reason for an increase in sales. Future developments will focus on appliance style, colour and power, rather than new developments. Hand blenders and food processors are the market leaders, with just above 44% share of the market each.
