Foolish, not ghoulish
Article Abstract:
There have been a number of accidents involving space craft, and the fate of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Mars Climate Orbiter illustrates one cause, human error. The error arose because both metric and imperial units were used in calculations, and this led to an incorrect interpretation of data, which in turn meant that the craft went too close to Mars and is presumed to have burned up. Other errors have included missing characters in software, which have led to the unintended destruction of space craft.
