Japan's Golden Week is expected to open up spending floodgates
Article Abstract:
The celebration of Japan's Golden Week is expected to unleash as much as 923.3 billion yen in consumer spending, most of it in local tourism. Golden Week, a series of public holidays that begins on Apr 29 with Nature Appreciation Day and ends on May 5 with Children's Day, is expected to result in massive spending by the Japanese. This is a very welcome development for Japanese economists who claim that prevailing low consumer spending in Japan is responsible for the country's poor economic performance.
