Ford, ZF Friedrichshafen form automatic-transmission venture
Article Abstract:
Ford Motor Co. and ZF Friedrichshafen AG have outlined a deal for a joint venture to produce automatic transmissions for motor vehicles. The joint venture will be 51%-owned by ZF Friedrichshafen and 49%-owned by Ford Motor, and will manufacture and market about 1 million continuously variable automatic transmissions for light trucks and automobiles at Ford Motor's Batavia plant in Ohio. ZF Friedrichshafen of Germany is a manufacturer of steering systems, off-road drive-line and axle systems, and manual and automatic transmissions for automobiles.

Clariant pins its growth on the chemicals unit

Clariant International AG believes that the rapid expansion of its fine-chemicals business will be a pivotal factor in the company's growth strategy for the next four years. Clariant's strategic plan to the year 2003 will concentrate on surplus cash generated from its semi-specialty chemicals business. The cash would be used to finance the rapid expansion of fine-chemicals, electronic materials, and life science intermediaries.

Monsanto offers to sell unit to finance buying spree
Article Abstract:
Monsanto Co. has decided to sell off its NutraSweet unit, as well as the remainder of its food ingredient business. The company is selling off the businesses in order to finance its $8 billion (7.74 billion euros) spending program for crop biotechnology. Monsanto's food ingredient business covers the company's artificial sweetners and biogum businesses. These business produce approximately $1 billion in yearly revenues.
