Former phone monopoly starts ringing bells for analysts
Article Abstract:
Some analysts in Hong Kong are starting to recommend stocks of former monopoly Hong Kong Telecommunications Ltd. as good buys. The firm's share prices have been fluctuating since 1995 after competition was introduced into the market. The firm announced a 52% increase in net profits in March 1998, due in part to a HK$6.7 billion reimbursement from government. Other analysts assert that the firm's profits from IDD services will further fall due to increased international and local competition.
