Franc down, bookings up
Article Abstract:
Switzerland is enjoying a tourism boom as bookings rise in most of the country's hotels and resorts. The revival in the industry's fortunes has been attributed to higher tourist traffic, favorable exchange rates and strong domestic demand from Swiss travelers. In 1996, the top two companies in the hotels sector were Movenpick and Swissotel, which had turnover of 883.2 and 449.0 million Swiss francs, respectively. Other important players in the Swiss hotel trade were Steigenburger Hotels, Sunstar-Holding, Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel and Montreaux-Palace.
