France: Yule logs in 2001
Article Abstract:
According to Iri-Secodip, the festive season ice cream market represented 8.8mn tonnes in the 12 months ending January 2001, down 8.6%, for EUR 37.72mn, down 2.1%. According to Iri-Secodip, the drop in consumption for ice cream Yule logs is due to the general drop in ice cream sales, the fact that the festive products were put on the shelves late and withdrawn early, and the shift to purchasing fresh pastry. Manufacturers and private labels are going to launch new products for Christmas 2001: Nestle Gervais' Sensations Yule log, and Miko's Viennetta rum-grape variety. Gervais has launched the Smarties Yule log and Viennetta is updating its products in order to appeal to young people.
