BMW (Germany), automotive company, will make a decision on the placement of a new production plant by the end of the summer of 2001 at the latest. The industrial zone in Kolin, the Czech Republic, is on the short list for the project. The new production plant should produce 200,000 cars of the type BMW 3 and should employ nearly 5,000 persons in 2004. According to unofficial information, the strongest rival for the placement is Leipzig, Germany. The investment costs on the construction of the plant should be EUR 1 bil.

Skoda Auto increased its profit in 2000

Skoda Auto (SA) (Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic), automotive company, increased its net profit by 26.5% to CEK 3.336 bil in 2000 compared to 1999. The firm's proceeds rose by 23.4% to CEK 136.283 bil in 2000 compared to 1999. The company sold 435,403 cars including 158,503 Octavias, 148,028 Felicias and 128,872 Fabias in 2000. In 2000 SA invested CEK 13.248 bil, mainly in new products of the model line Fabia and a new set production plant. Its investment costs increased by 23.7% in 2000 compared to 1999.

Skoda Auto (SA) (Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic), automotive company, expects its sales to increase by 3-5% in 2001 compared to 2000. Its sales in western Europe increased by 22% during Jan-Feb/2001. Demand for cars decreased by 2.5% in the Czech Republic during the same period. About 57% of all the sales of all new cars are represented by the car make Skoda. SA spent more than CEK 90 bil at its suppliers in 2000. Two thirds of the suppliers were Czech firms.
