Franco-German alliance beats rival bids for BWB

A 49% stake in Berlin, Germany's municipal water company has been sold to a Franco-German consortium that includes Allianz AG, RWE AG, and Vivendi SA. Industry analysts have said that German public officials sold Berliner Wasserbetriebe (BWB) to the Franco-German consortium over rival bids from U.S.-based Enron Corp. and France's Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux SA.
