French Pres Jacques Chirac and Prime Minister Alain Juppe unveiled the 1997 budget on Sep 18, 1996. The budget will make spending cuts of $11.6 billion in various services in an effort to bring down France's deficit to 3% of GDP by Dec 1997, and meet the European Union's single currency requirements.
