Funds vie for Taiwan exposure
Article Abstract:
The mutual fund industry in Taiwan is undergoing a large number of mergers and acquisitions as Securities Investment Trust Enterprises (SITEs) choose to sell to foreign fund-managers. HSBC Asset Mangement, Invesco, ABN Amro Asset Management, UBS Warburg, AIG, Citibank, and Prudential are among the biggest investors. Taiwan regulatory authorities allowed complete ownership of SITEs by foreign companies in 1996, and are expected to allow even greater freedoms to foreign companies in the country, making SITEs obsolete.
