STEEL TUBE MAKERS UNABLE TO COMPETE WITH NEPALI IMPORTS
Article Abstract:
Steel tube manufacturers from Nepal are taking advantage of cheap steel sourced from Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and Tata Steel and dumping their products in the Indian market. This has adversely affected domestic manufacturers, who are facing sickness and are on the verge of closure, as they are unable to compete with the cheap imports from Nepal. The Federation of Engineering Industries of India claims that SAIL and Tata Steel are exporting hot rolled coils to Nepal at Rs9,000-9,500 per tonne while it is sold by them in the domestic markets at Rs18,000-19,000 per tonne.
