GUJARAT GAS PULLS OUT OF TRIPURA PROJECT
Article Abstract:
Gujarat Gas Company Ltd (GGCL), a division of British Gas, has decided against taking over the Tripura National Gas Company Ltd, a government of Tripura undertaking, as there are many conditions on committed offtake of gas. It also wants to concentrate on Gujarat where most of its operations are located. GGCL was supposed to have taken a 78 percent stake in the Rs5.5 crore project while the Government of Tripura and the Assam Gas Company were to have each held 11 percent. (khr)

GMDC SEEKS LEASE FOR LIGNITE MINING IN SOUTH GUJARAT
Article Abstract:
The Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) is seeking lease of the lignite mines at Valiyar in Bharuch district and Tarkeshwar in Surat district in south Gujarat. The mines are expected to have huge reserves of lignite. GMDC feels that 40-50 percent of such resources in south Gujarat are mineable. It has estimated that the Valiyar mines have about 500 million tonnes of mineable lignite deposits at the depth of 200 metres. (ag)
