Gas pains
Article Abstract:
Gasoline prices have risen in Burma due to rumors of a shortage. The Burmese government owes money to Mitsui and a one-year agreement to supply Burma with crude petroleum ended in Jul 1996. The government is seeking a new contract and argues that stocks will only be low on a temporary basis. Rises in fuel prices affect transportation and food costs. Rice exports could be affected and Burma has already seen a drop in rice exports for 1995 to 1996.
