Investors who turn up their noses at aromatics may miss a whiff of profit
Article Abstract:
Investors have tended to ignore Aromatics (Thailand) Co. (ATC) because of the petrochemical industry's downward trend and the prospect of competition from regional rivals. The company's investment appeal has not been helped by the extremely disappointing performance of Thai petrochemical listings in 1995. However, experts consider ATC to be a good prospect in view of its low price and the fact that it plays a key role in the Thai government's efforts to develop a domestic petrochemical sector.

Higher polymer prices, tax breaks augur well for shares of Indian Petrochemicals
Article Abstract:
Analysts consider Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd. (IPCL) as one of the most attractive investments in the Indian market today. They state that firm international prices for plastic polymers coupled with tax breaks will help to drive the company's share price. IPCL is planning an overseas convertible-bond issue to help finance the company's new facilities. IPCL hopes to raise at least $150 million from the planned bond issue.

MBf's image problem bothers investors
Article Abstract:
The negative image of Malaysian financial services firm MBf Capital with investors has kept its share prices low. MBf's share price closed at $1.38 on July 19, 1996, making it one of the cheapest in the market despite its promising growth prospects. Analysts and fund managers attribute their reluctance to invest in MBf to the wheeler-dealer image of its CEO, intragroup lending in the company and its lack of transparency.
