Gemplus's earnings rose strongly in '98

Gemplus SCA posted an increase in earnings of more than 13-fold for the 1998 year. Gemplus is a manufacturer of smart-card based solutions. The company posted a rise in net income to $27 million. In 1997, Gemplus reported $2 million in net income. The company's revenue increased 11% to $648 million. Gemplus's gross margins also rose from 32% in 1997 to 34% in 1998.

Gemplus lowers share-price range for its offering
