German governments redefine future role of airports
Article Abstract:
The governments of the Lander and the German Federal Ministry of Transport agreed on a 10-point strategic plan with principal goals that include more privatization of airports and further simplification of authorizations for future developments, among others. The Ministry of Transport re-confirmed its determination to create a decentralized airport system. Likewise, it will give assurance that the three biggest airports in Germany, in Munich, Dusseldorf and Frankfurt, which handle over 15 million passengers annually, will stay competitive and reinforce their hub operations in Europe.

Bridging new markets
Article Abstract:
The opening of the 16-km long Oresund bridge that will link Denmark and Sweden will result in changes to travel patterns in the Scandinavian region that will benefit Copenhagen Kastrup airport. The bridge, which will be opened to the public in Jul 2000, will take the facility closer to half of Sweden's exporters. The development has already caused a number of companies to begin shifting their headquarters to the Copenhagen/Malmo region of Denmark.
