Get off my frequency
Article Abstract:
Radio astronomers are concerned about sound pollution from wireless communication, since radio noise is drowning out sounds from the stars. Satellite networks are a particular problem since they broadcast to all points on the surface of the earth and this includes points where there are radio telescopes. Astronomers can aim subsidiary telescopes at the source of interference to subtract the signal from the nuisance and assess the natural signal. There are few places on earth where there is little interference from wireless telephony.

A solar-powered millennium bug
Article Abstract:
Solar maximums are events on the sun which can disrupt communications and other modern technology on earth, and one such event has been predicted for Mar 2000. Solar flares affect the Earth's electrical balance and so the ability of the Global Positioning System to function. Two researchers forecast a maximum in 2000, from research independent of each other. They are the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's JoAnn Joselyn, and the National Solar Laboratory's Richard Altrock.
