Go slow
Article Abstract:
Britain has a high level of fatalities of child pedestrians, and this could be reduced if speed limits were cut, espeically in urbanized areas. Central government is to leave local government to decide on this issue. Schemes that have already been introduced have been successful in cutting death rates, but local government is often worried about annoying traders and motorists. The government has also decided against reducing the amount of alcohol that drivers can consume, although this would also save lives. A plan to cut road death rates by 40% would still leave 24,000 deaths over a decade.
