Going round in a circle
Article Abstract:
The numbers of public-to-private institutionally led transactions has increased in the UK during 1998 as the perceived risk involved in such deals appears to be outweighed by the gains for financial institutions and investors. Protective regimes designed to regulate public company investor risks are the most important issue facing financiers seeking to target firms for buy-in or buyout activities. The regulations prevent exclusive talks taking place which may call into doubt board ethics.

Second time around
Article Abstract:
The number of management buy-outs (MBOs) and buy-ins (MBIs) in the UK rose to 499 from 285 during the ten years to 1995. The number of buyouts valued at over 10 million pounds rose to more than 60 per year, from under 20. While investors tend to hold such investments for an average of three to five years, a significant number of MBOs and MBIs have still not been exited, five years on. The question of suitability of buyout business capital structure is discussed.
