Golden hoards
Article Abstract:
Corruption charges against political leaders in Pakistan are nothing new, however, Nawaz Sharif has managed to freeze the Swiss bank accounts of six foreign companies because it is claimed that members of the Bhutto family are silent partners and they have been stashing money away. It may be difficult to prove this, and it will certainly take time, but the suggestion of corruption gives Bhutto's opponents considerable political advantage. This ploy may backfire on Sharif if the same investigations are made about his own family and cabinet members.

The hot spot
Article Abstract:
The testing of nuclear weapons by India and Pakistan has become closely connected with the conflict between these two countries over control of Kashmir. International attention has been drawn to the conflict in Kashmir, but this does not mean that a solution will be found quickly. Indeed, the prospects for a solution seem very bleak. Any new negotiations between India and Pakistan regarding Kashmir would probably be sparked off by domestic political and military developments, rather than by international pressure.
