Melting pot boils over: Los Angeles riots dramatise plight of Korean Americans
Article Abstract:
The implications of the 1992 Los Angeles, CA, riots on the city's Korean-American population could result in reduced Asian investor confidence. Approximately $346 million was incurred in damages on some 100 Korean-owned businesses as a result of the riot in Koreatown. The media coverage of the riots compounded the problem by presenting the riots as resulting from the racial conflict between blacks and Korean-Americans. However, the reparation process could be adversely affected by Korea's anticipation of settlements specific to the Korean-American population.
