Good morning, Asia: US debates pains and gains of new radio service
Article Abstract:
China is strongly opposed to the setting up of Radio Free Asia. In response to conditions imposed on them by the Chinese government, the Commission on Broadcasting to Asia cancelled its scheduled Jun 1992 trip to the country. The commission, which is looking into the feasibility and implications of a surrogate radio in Asia, plan to hold a series of public hearings in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand and possibly South Korea. Although past debates held in the US centered mainly on America's role in the region, the Asian hearings are expected to be more complex and heated.

Pressure points: presidential candidate Clinton to worry Asia
Article Abstract:
Arkansas governor and presidential contender Bill Clinton's pronouncements on foreign trade should worry Asians particularly the Japanese. Clinton economic policy would revolve around the imposition of more taxes on foreign companies and the limitation of foreign lobbying in the US. Clinton's aggressive push towards US dominance in international trade means that the pressure on foreign governments to drop export subsidies would continue and even intensify.
